Saturday was the Tour de Palm Springs and the 30 plus guys were out there riding. There was some worry leading up to the event. There has been a number of storms rolling through Southern California and there was a good chance it was going to be a wet and rainy ride. We are a bit spoiled in SoCal and people don’t really know what to do in the rain…
My buddy picked up me at 4:30 and we headed over to pack up the bikes and roll out.

Since my new bike isn’t in yet, I took the TT bike figured getting a nice amount of time on it is never a bad thing. I was set to ride the 50 miler and the others were doing the 25 mile ride. As we drove it it started to rain a bit, but it pushed through and once in Palm Springs the sun was shining. Ended up being a great day for a ride, though it was a bit windy but that’s to be expected out there. Temp was mid 50 degrees F and Sun was out.
My ride started first and set out, since it was just me figured I’d push a bit on the tempo side of things. The idea was getting a nice workout in, ended up linking up with a guy Alex out there since we were doing the same pace. We rolled along very nicely and enjoyed a spirited effort. I tried to do long pulls in the TT position as my intervals, any small kickers I would drop back a bit. It was a flat ride only a few little bumps only about 1k ft of elevation gain throughout the whole thing. Mostly had to deal with some strong cross winds and when we headed back it was mostly a head wind.
The 25 miler was a different story, the guys had a number of issues out there, one of the guys had his crank arm threads stripped and basically did 20 miles with 1 leg. They stopped often to fix something and gather. They made the most of it though and all had a great time. It was some great views of the mountains so they enjoyed the day.
Even better was after, we had an AirBnB and stayed out in Palm Spring, drank a lot of beers and just overall good times! Great weekend full of Bikes, Beers and Buds!
