So got to take the new BMC Roadmachine out on….. well… the road. First ride out and it was great. The day before dialed in the fit a little, setting seat height, saddle position etc. Felt good so next was get up and ride the beaut. It was a Sunday morning, actually a birthday ride for me. So woke up early, grabbed everything, and headed out.
Bike felt great, one thing I noticed right off the bat was the crank length. This bike as a short crank length at 170mm. Typically I am right between two sizes, usually 51 and 54, the 54 are a tad big so I decided to go smaller and once get fully fitted then I can stretch it out and get more aggressive on the position. The previous bike I had ended up with 175mm cranks from changing and what not but now going to 170 I really felt I was spinning up quick. Overall it’s not bad since I need to get my normal cadence up so it will get used to but after a professional fitting, I’ll see what is best.
Overall the ride was great, it was comfortable and bike felt right when out riding. I am no professional reviewer so I don’t know all the nuances that go along with being on 100 different bikes. This one just felt good, 105 group did as expected and shifted clean. Solid shifts that comes new a new group. Spun up okay, but with being a bit heavier and aluminum wheels that is to be expected. Brake hoods felt a bit big in the hands being a hydraulic brake, but activation of the brakes felt good and smooth. Stopping was clean and crisp, and nice. I had nothing but smiles on the ride, I found myself laughing for the joy of being out. What better day could it be, on a brand new bike, temperature in the 70’s and sunny. I am spoiled being in southern California I’ll admit it.
